January Resolution Recap

My Spiritual Resolution for the month was to focus on the Fruit of the Spirit, Gentleness. Being gentle is a choice and most days I did choose gentleness.

My Mental Resolution was to write some ads for Kenyon Consultation.  It is with great dismay that I share I did not write a single one.

My Emotional Resolution for the month of January was to spend more time with my family and friends.  I did try to set aside more time, but I can tell it is not enough.  If I had to give a grade, I would say a 'B'.  There is a lot of room for improvement.

My Physical Resolution was to exercise more.  While I did ride my bike, I did not break out the weights.  Next month I would like to crack down on myself and make some ultimatums if I don't exercise.

Like no sugar if I don't exercise.

Or no Netflix.

Or no internets until I exercise.

I got the idea for monthly resolutions from Kelli from She Learns As She Goes.  Visit her blog by clicking the link.  She has awesome ideas.

Ecclesiastes 1:2-11

"Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.  What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?  One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.  The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.  The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.  All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.  All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.  The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.  Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after." - Ecclesiastes 1:2-11

Writing a Book!

As the title implies, I'm writing a book!  An e-book to be exact.  Maybe I should have chosen a picture of computer code.  One of my closest friends inspired me with the idea. My whole life I've dreamed about being an author, but kind of lost the dream when I realized how expensive it can be to publish a book.  Also, I became disenchanted with the process when I heard about editors who demand changes to plot, publishers who pick their own covers, etc.  But writing an e-book is a little different.  It's self publishing without a lot of the headache.

I'm still in the early stages of brainstorming, outlining, and setting up the form of the book. The more work and time I put in, the more I realize I need a deadline, a cut off date.  My book will be done March 1st.  This gives me a little over a month to finish.  A due date is a big commitment.  I'm a procrastinator in the name of perfection.

Guess I should get to work...

Psalms 37:4, 5

"Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.  Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." - Psalms 37:4, 5

This one little leaf has held on all winter.  It is patiently waiting for spring.  It reminded me of how we are to wait on the Lord, for our life has seasons of winter, but spring always arrives.

"Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.  Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.  If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?  But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.  I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.  My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.  Let Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.  And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities." - Psalms 130

Joe gave me a camera for Christmas!  It is a Nikon Coolpix L810.  It's beautiful and easy to use.  Of course, I've been using the camera to take pictures of my baby!  She is growing up too fast and getting into all sorts of trouble.  She and Ezekiel play all the time.  She is my buddy and pal.  She is a very cuddly kitten with a loving nature.  She does not sit still for very long unless she is asleep, so most of my photos of her are during nap time.  She had a vet visit yesterday and she is one healthy kitty!

How did you get up there?

I love her extra toes!

I love her so much.

2013 Resolutions

My New Year's Resolutions are going to be short and sweet, but not necessarily easy!

  • Take thirty pictures with my new camera each month!  One a day OR thirty in one, but they can't be haphazard, they must be usable for a purpose.  Even if it's only to make someone smile.

  • Write a blog a day.

As much as I want to add more, this year I want success.

My monthly resolutions will continue to be divided up by the categories: Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual.

What are your New Year's Resolutions for the year 2013?

January Resolutions

My Spiritual Resolution for the month of January is to focus on the Fruit of the Spirit Gentleness.  Gentle means mild in temperament or behavior.  A synonym of gentle is soft. My verse of the month will be Proverbs 15:1a  "A soft answer turneth away wrath:"  My job in retail gives me the chance to be gentle everyday.  It is easier for me to gentle with some people than others.  The elderly, those who are sick, and young children always inspire a gentle nature within myself.  It is difficult to be gentle to someone who is rude or irrationally angry, but as the above Scripture mentions, being gentle will turn away wrath.

My Emotional Resolution for the month is to re-connect with friends and family.  Working two retail jobs is stressful for this particular introvert.  When I get home from work, I feel the need to detox and be alone.  At the same time, I am missing quality time with my family and friends.  We are to "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ." (Galations 6:2)  We cannot do this sheltered in a bubble.  We need to interact with each other and stay involved.  Life is a delicate balance.

My Mental Resolution for the month of January is to write some ads for my business and post them in online forms.  I have some ideas for Kenyon Consultation (my business), which I am excited to explore and share with you guys.

My Physical Resolution for January is to exercise twice per week on my stationary bike and to use my weights at least once per day, even if only for a few minutes.  Last week, I rode my bike for a combined sixty minutes.  Exercising in another which is hard to do when working two jobs.  I feel exhausted and do not want to exert myself for anything.  One thing which distracts me from the effort is to watch Netflix while riding my bike.  One day, I would love to own a treadmill desk.  Then, I could write and peruse the internet while exercising!

Kelli from She Learns As She Goes came up with the monthly resolution idea and hosts a Link Up for it on her blog.  If you are so inclined, join the group.  It is a great way to stay motivated to complete your goals.  Sometimes the fellow girls help me decide my future resolutions.  Thanks Kelli!

December Resolutions Recap

Better late, than never!

My Spiritual Resolution for the month of December was to focus on the Fruit of the Spirit Patience.  Be careful what you ask for, the answer might be yes.  Many areas of my life felt tested.  While I did focus on patience, I can't say that I mastered the subject.

My Emotional Resolution for the month was to stop complaining.  I'm still working on overcoming this flaw.

My Mental Resolution was a success!  My letters were mailed by the middle of the month. While I haven't heard from anyone yet, it was a big deal to put myself out there and take the steps to promote my business.

My Physical Resolution for the month was to move more.  I could have done better with this one.

One extra goal I set for December was to have a Christmas Party with my little sister.  We had fun making things and baking cookies.

I'm excited to make January's Resolutions and figure out my goals for the year 2013.

Thanks to Kelli from She Learns As She Goes for coming up with the resolution idea and a way for us to stay connected to each other every month. :)

"She is" by Sak

She is love
She is above
She is below
She is a row
of people, places, books, CDs
Yes, all of these

She is kind
Sometimes she feels in a bind
She laughs
She cries
She needs someone to dry her eyes
She is mean
When she needs to blow off steam

She can't wait for the new
But misses the old
Sometimes her heart feels cold
She feels like a coke bottle, just shaken up
She is a delicate tea cup
Handle with care
She feels barely there
